2008 will be another history for Brunei Darussalam in sports achievement. For the last 12 months period, we did participated in various of sporting events regionally as well as in the world competitions. The sweet moment will be also when we successfully hosting some great and big sporting events. I personally think that through these achievements, our country has re-established as one of the most pre-eminent and established small nations of the world.

In 2008 Brunei Darussalam was known regionally, and indeed across the world, through sporting event participations. Brunei Darussalam is so small that even the slightest of gains can be monumental. We shall see truly mighty gains this coming year.

This coming year then, we shall look forward for a brighter world in sports achievement. Through sports also hopes we could gains our solidarity with the neighbor countries while maintaining our peace-full home, prosperity and security.....happy new year people.

For a few days to come on the new year, I will be putting a sporting events for the year 2009.

Today remarks the start of the 16th ASEAN Prisons Track & Field Championships. The opening ceremony was held at the Indoor Stadium, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, Berakas. Pehin Orang Kaya Dewa Pahlawan Dato Paduka Awang Haji Dani bin Haji Ibrahim, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Brunei Darussalam was present as the guest of honour.

The sport events will run for three days as of today 19th december 2008 and schedule to end on 21 december 2008. Brunei Darussalam hosted the prestigious biennially sport events twice in 1990 and 1998. This year for the third times, our nation is honoured to host again. All events will be held at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, Berakas.

Yesterday saw a second DS-Futsal Tournament matches for the groups E, F, G & H. Will update on the final results some other time. For now, here are few actions from yesterday matches.

8 better teams proceed to the next round

34 teams from the first group match failed to proceed to the next round yesterday. At the same time, congratulations to the top two teams from team groups A, B, C & D for the qualifying.

Next match for the remaining 36 teams will resumes tomorrow morning as early as 8am at UBD Sports Complex. Again, the first two teams from each group to finished top and second from the table will proceed to the quarter final the next week, and for sure to compete for the first ever title. The last 16 teams will for sure promised an exciting games....lets see the game!!!

DS - Holiday Futsal Tournament 2008

In conjunction to the end-of-term school holiday in Brunei Darussalam, one of the footbal association in Brunei & Muara district, named Dragon Sword will be organising a 3 days futsal tournament. 68 teams, will compete the three days event which will be held at Sports Complex, University Brunei Darussalam.

Before the game begins, a group decider ballot were held at Dewan Kuliah, Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on Sunday, 7 December 2008 at 8 pm. The groups were divided into eight teams. First four games will commenced on Friday, 12 December, morning and afternoon sessions. Each team consists of eight teams to compete for the first two top table to qualify for the quarter-final rounds.

Next match will be kickoff on 14th December. The remaining four groups will consists of 9 teams each. After the two days round robin games, the tournament is scheduled to resumes on Sunday, 21st December 2008. The last 16 teams will have to pass the quarter-final before proceeds to the semi-final and then to the final rounds for the first title in DS-Holiday Futsal Tournament history.

The DS - Holiday Futsal Champion will bagged B$800. runner-up teams will received B$500 and B$300 for the third place. Hope to see good games throughout the tournaments. Good luck to all participants!!! and well done in advance to DS for organising such tournaments.

The 9th Southeast Asian Fencing Federation Championships (SEAFF) which was held at the National Indoor Stadium in Berakas will project Brunei Darussalam ability in organising such events. The first time Brunei hosting such events was back in 2005 for the 7th SEAFF. The Championship was participated by Indonesia, Malaysia, Phillipines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The game started on 3rd December and will be ended on 12th December 08. The next big fencing games will be held at Laos during the Sea Games.

To history, Fencing was first introduced in the South East Asia Games at Jarkarta in 1987. Five countries which took part in the fencing event decided to form an association. By then, SEAFF was formed on 12th September 1987 in Jarkarta, Indonesia.

It has been a week that I couldn't update the sport news. Something has come up last week. Now here is the medadl tally for the 6th BIMP-EAGA which come to an end last sunday, 30th November 2008. Hosting the 6th game for the first time, Brunei Darussalam 'A' only managed to bag 12 gold, 9 silver and 14 bronze. While Brunei Darussalam 'B' finished with 6 silver and 2 bronze medals.
